I try not only pin, and dream, but actually work on some of them... whether they be recipes, or things for the home, or holiday things... but... this will "hopefully" help me to get focused. I wonder if I can do this.... NO...... I WILL do this!!!!

Knotted Headband
This is contribution to the March Crochet Along over at The Habitual Homebody. (formerly The Curious Pug):
I was really excited at how easy they worked up.
Although.... I KNOW that I have a bigger head that the normal person - so, I tried to take that into consideration, and made my foundation chain much longer.... BIG MISTAKE. It just slid right over my head.
So, on my second attempt, I followed the pattern, but used a bigger hook... that was the key.
They both fit our heads perfectly. (my daughter inherited my "big head")
Here are some more pics:
I ended up making 3 total....I want to make more - I really liked them. But, we are starting to have summer already in southern California... so, it just made my head sweat!! YUK!!!

Give up TV???
Are you serious?????
Give up TV????????
This is a question that God has been asking me......
And those are my answers..... in a nutshell.....
If you KNOW me.... then you know of my "love-affair" with TV!!!
TV has been a part of my life F-O-R-E-V-E-R!!!
It has helped me through all kinds of rough times in my life... helped me get over break-ups and loneliness. It's helped me figure out what true friendship is about and what a real marriage should look like!!!
WAIT A MINUTE!!!!
Did I ACTUALLY say all those things??? Do I actually BELIEVE all those things????
Well, of course I don't believe them...
But, sometimes I think by the way I act and the way I conduct my life, and the conversations I have... you would think that I truly BELIEVE that TV is my god....
WHAT???
Oh, come on now.... REALLY???????
yes.... if I have to be honest with myself (who says I HAVE TO??) (I guess I should!!)
You know what????? I have sometimes put my TV shows before some of the relationships in my life!!!
Have you???
Think about it.... ever said NO to an invitation, because you don't want to miss your TV show? or a program? Ever not answer the phone, because it is not a commercial?
OUCH!!!.
I haven't been watching TV for the past 4 days
WHAT???
I know.... 4 DAYS!!!! It has made me more introspective... more creative with my time.... more available.....
It's kind of like a fast.. when you fast from eating.... You don't deny that the rest of the world needs to eat - you just know that YOU have given it up.... so, you let people talk.. you nod, and laugh at the appropriate moments.... But, down deep, you know.... you have laid a friend to rest (R.I.P.T.V.)
Here's my journey:
It went something like this:
I feel like God has been talking to me for some time about giving my TV watching a rest...
When we lost free broadcast TV and had to go to the "box", I thought that was my answer... But, NNNNOOO... Netflix and Hulu Plus came along... and they became VERY good friends of mine - in fact we even have a chart as to who gets to watch Netflix on which nights. (only 2 viewers per account!)
So.... you talk about A-D-D-I-C-T-E-D!!!! (secret: I would even watch Netflix when I walked my dogs!)
About a week ago, God did all but knock me between the eyes with a 2x4 and asked me to give up TV for Him..... WOW!!! "For Him" How could I say NO???
So, that is where those 2 questions at the beginning came in...
Are you serious?????
Give up TV????????
So, I agreed to give it up for a week.... Friday - Friday!!!
What will God do?
I don't know....
Why would putting TV before God be something that would please Him?
Am I supposed to be pleasing God???
Colossians 1:10-11:
so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience,
I think so!!
SO!!!!! This is a snapshot into my journey!!

Can Kindness Be Wrong??
Can Kindness Be Wrong?
This is a blog that my cousin writes... and WOW!! Today's (or actually, yesterday's) blog was great!Talking about slowing down... seeing the needs around us.... Listening to God's voice..... "doing" what the Holy Spirit is prompting us to do.....
I KNOW all the right things to do.... sometimes, I just need to be reminded, and gently prodded!!
Thank you, Rachel!

Celebration of Discipline - Book #2
Book #2 for 2013
This book was recommended to me about 15 years ago, by a dear, dear, friend. I bought the book, and then it sat on my bookcase F-O-R-E-V-E-R!! To be precise.... 15 years.....
Well, with this goal I have for 2013 - this one was top on my list. (or, close to top!)
Here is a quote from the the front flap of the book:
"Since its publication in 1978, Celebration of Discipline has
helped millions of seekers discover a richer spiritual life infused
with joy, peace, and a deeper understanding of God."
It has really lived up to the quote... it is an AMAZING book.
Once again in THIS book... along with 7, I feel like God is speaking to me about "Silence"
Being quiet, quiet time, sshhhh, be still.....
So much more.... but, that is the loudest thing I am hearing....

It's Cupcake Time!!!
This was the February Crochet-along challenge over at The Curious Pug. She does a Crochet challenge every month. LOVE IT! It is soooo much fun. Sometimes it really takes me out of my comfort zone!
I have been wanting to make cupcakes for a long time now. So, this challenge was just the thing to make me "Do It". They were fun to make!!
The challenge this month gave us 3 choices. I, of course, wanted to make the cupcakes, but also wanted to try my hand at the Danish Heart . I think all the choices were great.

In Memory of Bandit!!
My co-worker's dog passed away this week. It was so sad! My heart was really hurting for her.
I always like to remember my friends with pet sympathy cards when their pets pass away.
So, here is Bandit's:
He was a black and white dog.... so, I didn't want to go with the "traditional" browns.... I have sooo much brown dog stuff.... because of MY sweet little brown pups!!!
But... I just looked in my drawer of "dog treats" aka "dog card making supplies" - and found these cute stickers, and thought spelling out his name would be cute... I hope that she enjoys it... well, as much as she can "enjoy" it!!
It was so fun making the card... makes me want to make some more... I really miss creating cards.....

Danish Heart
Valentines Day is coming!!!
Sweethearts Day!!!
Yeah! Right!!
Whatever!!!
Anyway.... this is what I made in honor of Valentines Day:
It was part of February's Crochet Along over at The Curious Pug.
Alysia gave us 3 to choose from. I thought I would start with this one.... in time for Valentines Day.
I have it on display in my LR.
I am rather proud of it. I love this challenge every month... it causes me to make some things that I would normally not do.
Now, I will be working on a few things for ME! and then I want to work on those lovely cupcakes that are the next thing I want to make for the February Challenge!!

Book #1 is 7
I just finished one of the most "life-changing" books (other than the Bible) that I have ever read!!! Ok... now, that I said that.... I can think of another book with equal "life-changing" effect on me.... Crazy Love, by Francis Chan.
Anyway... the book I am referring to is 7: An Experimental Mutiny Against Excess
It is written by a VERY talented & captivating author: Jen Hatmaker.
I just finished by first book for 2013 - and this was top on my list.
It was a fun read... she made the first book of the year a pleasure to read.
(I am not a reader... I have carried this book with me for over a year... read the first 3 chapters, and then stared at it for 9 months!!)
I kept thinking at the end of each chapter, it couldn't get any better.... and it did!!!
I highly recommend this book.... 2 thumbs up..... 5 stars!!!

It's been cold... but REALLY???
Ok, first off... if you know me.... you know that I LOVE MY PRINCESS!!!
But, saying that.... she is getting old....
And you know that old women get cold......
But, saying that.... she is getting old....
And you know that old women get cold......
But, I think this was getting a little ridiculous!!!
She finally moved.... (after an hour or so) but I think it was because she moved even closer, and probably burned her nose!! |
January Crochet-a-long
This is my entry for the January Crochet-a-long over at The Curious Pug. I am having SO much fun crocheting and posting my creations.
This is my SECOND attempt at the slippers. (see below for the first ones!) |
each look a little different.... but, I guess that gives them character!! (haha) |
I had the yarn on hand... it was "fuzzy" and not really easy to work with! But, they keep my toes toasty!! |
These are my first attempt... and in some ways I like them... I was trying to make them "beautiful" with the flowers on the top..... But, I think the flowers are a little TOO big!
I made my own buttons... by using the yarn... I was too lazy to get up and look for my buttons!!! |
I made them too big... that's why I wasn't too happy with them. My daughter tried them on, and fell in love with them!!! |
I think that if they fit me... I would have liked them more!! (But the green ones above fit perfectly, and I love them!) |
