Dorothy and Otto??

History of the Dachshund

The Dachshund, meaning "badger dog" in German, is a lively breed with a friendly personality and keen sense of smell. Known for their long and low bodies, they are eager hunters that excel in both above- and below-ground work.

A Look Back
Dachshunds were first bred in the early 1600s in Germany. The goal was to create a fearless, elongated dog that could dig the earth from a badger burrow and fight to the death with the vicious badgers.

The breed became popular in the U.S. during the early 1900's, but fell out of favor during World War I. After the war, a few U.S. breeders slowly rebuilt the gene pool by importing German stock, and the breed began to increase in popularity again.

Training for WHAT???

Found these pictures while I was "doxie surfing". They are LIFE magazine pictures. The title for them is: Dachshunds in Training. Exactly WHAT are these dogs training for??

Small, Medium, and Large

I went to my friend's house. They have 3 doxies. All red, short hair. I love them!!!
One is a standard... the cutest ever. She is so big... I love her. Her hair was as soft as velvet! Her name is salchicha (spanish for sausage). The next one was Pepper. He is the brother of the tiny one, Chili. Chili is only 8 pounds. I LOVE VISITING MY DOXIE FRIENDS!!!
